Description

Organic timothy hay is difficult to find. The reason is, not very many farmers choose to grow organic timothy hay, because it is very difficult to get a good yield on the crop with organic timothy. Over the last several years, we have looked and looked and were unable to find an organic timothy hay we were really excited about offering. We did meet a few farmers that had it, but the quality just wasn’t there. Often times the quality you will find with organic either has lots of weeds in, or is hard texture, or yellow or lots of brown leaf. This hay is a very good quality for organic, we would say it is very similar to our normal 2nd cutting timothy hay in terms of quality. But the thing about this hay that we thought was really special is the SMELL! It smells so good…such a strong and good, fresh spring like aroma…we must say it is even stronger than other timothy hays we sell, and we are sure the bunnies are going to really like that about this hay and we think the consumption will be great! Make sure to always feed your small pet a constant source of hay – 80% of their diet needs to be great hay. They need it constantly!

Features

One of the only organic timothy hays on the market, and we must say – we think the quality is great! We are so excited to share this with small pet owners everywhere.

This organic hay is soft and leafy, it is an early cut organic timothy hay. Other organic hays are often times harder texture with bigger stems! The pets really love this stuff!

The smell is AMAZING! That is one of the first things we noticed when we found this hay – it had a much more rich and strong(a good kind of strong) hay smell, even more than other hays we sell. We think this may have to do with it being Organic!

From 2022 crop, just recently harvested!

Hand selected for quality. We looked at several organic hays, and many of them did not meet our quality standards. It’s actually quire hard to find quality organic timothy hay. This stuff we feel so lucky we found it. Of course it is backed 100% by our Picky Pet Promise (100% satisfaction guaranteed or your money back)!

I have been a Small Pet Select customer for five years. My girls have eaten SPS non-organic first cutting hay for most of their lives. SPS gave me a sample of their new organic hay to try. The hay is lush, green, and full of thick stems. My only critique is that it did not have enough seed heads. My girls were the ultimate critics, though and they absolutely loved it! I included pictures of them eating this hay with my review. This hay is an excellent addition to their line of high quality food for small pets! So, I opened the box and smelled this sweetest grass smell I have ever encountered. I went to refill my boy's hay-feeder and he didn't walk, he literally ran and attacked the hay. He was so excited! Very good quality hay. I was a bit skeptical when I saw some brown bits in the hay, but my boy has been gobbling it up like it's candy. He's a picky hay eater, so it must be a "fine vintage" lol.Received my box of hay and found lots of dirt stuck to the product. So wish I would of listened to the reveiws about this product, always try to be open minded. I have seen the hay look bright green on website only to open it up and it all looks brown with clumps of dirt. never been dispointed with a product before, everything I order through Amazon I have always really enjoyed the products. I will be trying another brand of hay other than pet select.Nothing what was in description is true. Hay do not smell at all in fact it have a musty odor. There are not at all soft leaves 90% is hard stalks.!!!! As a color it’s mostly brown and yellow!!!!! Did I get some discarded box? Definitely returning!!!!Having had a rabbit in the past, I'm familiar with the "mini bale" of hay in a plastic bag that you buy in stores. My mother has horses, so I also know how full bales come. This timothy hay is delivered in a state that's somewhere in between. It's literally a box of hay. Like, open the box and there it is. Nothing protecting it from moisture, bugs, etc. Imagine pulling a flake of hay from a full bale, setting it into a box, closing the box and mailing it. That's what this is. And it's just a white box (not the cute green and white one shown), so if you miss the label on the side that says ORGANIC TIMOTHY HAY (like I did) then you'll have a bit of a mess to clean up when you open the box.All that being said, the hay is of excellent quality and our critters love it. No dust or mildew. Just fresh, wonderful-smelling timothy hay. I do think this is a higher quality than what we've gotten elsewhere, and I think I read that it's second cutting which is nice. (Usually fresher, cleaner hay than first cutting.)I'm willing to pay a small premium for all that. However, because this seems to be priced at roughly double what I'd normally pay per pound, and because I need to repackage this in a way that makes more sense for use with smaller animals, I'm knocking it down a star. It's a great product, though! They don't make it very clear on the listing page, but on the box it clearly states that this is first cut timothy hay (photo attached). The closest the description gets to saying this is where it says:"This hay is a very good quality for organic, we would say it is very similar to our normal 2nd cutting timothy hay in terms of quality."I'm a brand new bunny owner so I can't really speak as to whether or not organic quality is usually bad, like the description implies. But this does seem to be good quality hay from what I can see, with very little browning and very little dust/crumbles at the bottom. The smell is really nice and potent, quite sweet.I've also attached a photo of it next to the hay sampler box that I purchased, also from small pet select. It really comes down to what they prefer as to whether or not I would repurchase this. If it looks like it's their favorite then I definitely would even though it's pretty pricey. But I'm still in the process of figuring that out.I got this hay as a gift for others as well as for my pet, and can safely say it seems to be of excellent quality. It has a great smell, no bugs or excessive dust. As a bonus, this product is listed as organic. My only small gripe - the hay is packed loosely in a large cardboard box/container with a lid that lifts. This means the hay liked to come out and get everywhere when yo lift the lid. Be careful when opening!Overall, though, I would recommend this. This came fresh in the box and the bunnies enjoyed this.
